A: Our new jaws will fit most vises. In the case that your older vise has 4” jaws, we offer an extension that will allow the new jaws to fit your vise. If you are not sure as to if the new jaws will fit, please email us and we will see if there will be any issues.
A: We currently offer the Rotary (standard jaw in all vises except the Professional), Professional (standard on the Professional), and the Midge (fits all current vise models, professional needs extension).
A: A new forcing cone is needed when the old one has become deformed from pressure or has cracked because of the jaws. This happens from time to time with older cones through normal use of the vise over an extended period. Occasionally the jaws can also create a groove into the older cones making the cone hard to adjust as well as release the jaws when the cam lever has been released.
A: First start by removing the forcing cone and pulling the jaws out. Once they have been removed, wipe them down and be sure to remove all used dirty grease using a soft cloth with denatured alcohol. After the forcing cone and the jaws have been cleaned, apply a layer of Mobil XHP 222 blue grease to the o-ring at the base of the jaws. Be sure to apply enough that the entire o-ring is covered, this allows a smooth slide of the jaws while engaging them with the cam lever. You can also apply a very small amount of anti-seize grease to the inside of the forcing cone. This prohibits the jaws from sticking to the inside of the cone when the jaws are pushed forward from the cam lever.
Once the cone and the jaws are cleaned and lubricated, repeat the same cleaning of the inside of the jaw shuttle (where the jaws slide into) and clean all the old grease and tying material particles out. You do not need to apply more grease to the inside because the jaws will apply the grease that is needed already. A Q-tip dipped in denatured alcohol breaks down sticky old grease and allows you to get into the hard-to-reach places in the shuttle.
You are now ready to reassemble the jaws and forcing cone into the shuttle and you are all set to tie. Opening and closing the cam lever will get the grease distributed inside the shuttle so if it is a little tight at first, use will start to break it back to normal.
A: New jaws are a part of owning a vise. Over time, the immense pressure applied to them from the cam lever can cause the serrations to wear flat prohibiting the jaws from holding a hook firmly. If the inside of the jaws is flat, compressed so that the edges are flaring, chipped, or one of the tongs is broken, the jaws must be replaced. We do not refurbish old jaws, and a new pair is the only solution. Dyna-King does offer a 2-year warranty on new jaws that we sell separately or with the original purchase of a vise.
A: Sometimes the issue is due to wear and tear on the jaws and forcing cone or the groove on the cam lever has been worn flat. You will need to send the vise in for servicing and a new cam lever will be installed retuning the locking feature.
A: If any of the internal parts of the rotary feature are no longer working correctly, bent pieces such as the neck of the vise, cam lever installation, or if you simply would like a cleaning of the vise, the vise should be shipped back to the factory in Montrose for servicing by one of our professional technicians. Times vary throughout the year but usually the turnaround time is 1 month.
A: Midge jaws are designed for hook size #16 and smaller. Use of the midge jaws on large hooks can damage other parts of the vise as well as the jaws themselvesvoiding the 2-year warranty on the jaws.
A: This is a big indicator that the vise needs cleaning and new lubrication. If you have already cleaned the vise and the problem continues, a new pair of jaws, forcing cone, or cam lever could be needed. Sending the vise in for servicing is highly advised.
A: Brass will discolor when exposed to moisture and oxygen. While this does not damage the knobs usage, it does discolor them. This is a natural process and is not covered under warranty. New knobs are available for purchase from our factory if desired.
A: Dyna-King uses a 3/8” stems on all our vises and should fit most bases available. We do not offer any other styles of stems, only different lengths. Stems are vise specific
A: There is a small set screw under the base that holds the stem in place. Simply adjust the set screw and screw the stem back into the base and the vise will sit correctly.
A: We do not have any old accessories, nor do we have any parts for them available. Dyna-King does not warranty any discontinued accessories at this time.
A: Yes, our bobbin cradle and mount will work on other vises as long as those vises have a 3/8” stem.
